Farm Walks & Wildlife

Woodland Walks.

The rides and glades made in the 'ancient semi-natural' woodland in the winter of 05 are due to be smoothed out this summer, and we plan some woodland clearing parties this winter, designing and making paths, building log-piles, and generally having fun round picnic-fires! Eventually we hope to have some Forest School and Green Woodworking courses held in the woodland, and some green/living sculpture. A local woodworker, Jim, will make seats out of large logs, and many little bridges and gates will be constructed. We will then design maps for our visitors to use. Its a wonderful feeling to have such a flow of energy around the farm and between the house and the woodland again - much of the house was constructed from local timber, - oak, ash, hazel - when I look at our oldest beam, raised c.1400, I realise I'm looking at a tree planted many hundreds of years ago, through whose use a creative idea manifested into a physical place of shelter for human beings - so I want to show my appreciation and gratitude in celebrating the manifestation of our ideas in the woodland. Contributions from wood-workers of all kinds will be welcome!
